CVS & Walgreens, Jan 9

I want to focus on other things this week, so I decided to do all of my CVS/Walgreens shopping Sunday morning.  I did one transaction at each store. Fortunately, everything but one item I wanted was in stock. Unfortunately, the prices were higher than I planned for several items (esp @ Walgreens), so I had to make adjustments on the fly.

A couple of folks asked me where I get the coupons from as well as how do I know which coupons to keep for sales.  I get my coupons from the newspaper (I have 3 subscriptions), online, or from coupon books you can request (or sometimes just receive) in the mail.

As far as knowing which coupons to keep... I don't!  That's why I keep the ENTIRE coupon inserts from each Sunday's paper in a file box, sorted by date.  I'll add a picture soon.

Here's what I got today. To make it more readable, I won't show the regular price. I show the sale price & coupon amounts used. I added the coupon source in parentheses. IP = internet printable coupon

CVS
1 x finish dishwasher tablets (20ct) $3 - $2.25 (1/2 newspaper) = $0.75
3 x AirWick 3*$6 - 3*$4 (1/2 newspaper) = $6
4 x Maalox 4*$6.19 - 4*$5 (today's newspaper) = $4.76
1 x Snickers $0.89
-------------------------------
Total came to $12.40 after coupons + $0.44 tax = $12.84
I paid with $10 ExtraBucks (EB), $2.52 gift card (gc), and $0.32 cash
I got back $10 EB (finish/airwick), $10 EB (Maalox), and $.89 EB (Snickers) = $20.89
Net profit: $20.89-$12.84 = $8.05

Walgreens (Wags)
2 x Kellogg's Special K $5 - $2.50 (IP) = $2.50
2 x Stayfree = 2*$6.79 - $6.79 (today's paper) - $1 (IP) - $6 (Wags ad) = -$0.21
4 x Reach Total Care + Whitening toothbrush = 4*$4.79 - 2*$4.79 (10/10 newspaper) - $2 (IP) - $8 (Wags ad) = -$0.42
1 x Glad Cling Wrap = $2.49 - $0.50 (Wags ad) = $1.99
3 x Bic Triumph pens = 3*$1.99 - 2*2 (IP) - $1.97 (IP) = 0
Gummies Vitamins = $5
2 x Eggs 2*.99 = $1.98
Snickers $0.69
---------------------------------
Total came to $11.53 after coupons - $0.64 tax (yes, I had a negative tax amount) = $10.89
I paid with $10 Register Rewards (RR) and $0.89 cash
I got back $2.50 RR (Kellogg's), $5 RR (Gummies Vitamins) = $7.50
Net cost: $10.89 - 7.50 = $3.89
Note: Due to the  negative tax amount, I added the Snickers. Still had a negative tax, so I added another carton of eggs. In retrospect, I could've added just the eggs and left the snickers behind to reduce my out of pocket (oop, or cash) by $.69.

The regular price of all the items I purchased is $142.65.  If you put together the profit @ CVS and the cost @ Wags, I ended up $4.16 ahead today. Plus, I got the eggs, Stayfree, Glad, and pens I needed AND other stuff to give away.
