CVS - November 24 & 27, 2011

For the first time in 5 years, I was in the USA for Thanksgiving (and not busy getting married) and could participate in special Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales.

Note that I was due to have a baby on Thanksgiving Day, but she came a few weeks early (November 1). I still consider her my Thanksgiving treat.

I went to CVS on Thanksgiving morning (Nov 24) and then on Nov 27 for the deals on baby items.

Summary of both trips
Starting ExtraBucks: $0
Retail value: $150.92
Sale price: $114.87
Out of pocket: $28.34 (of which $1.66 was tax)
Ending ExtraBucks: $10
Net cost: $18.34

November 24:
The following items were on sale, plus you got back the full price in ExtraBucks, so any coupons meant profit:

4 x Mars candy ($0.75 ea)
2 x Listerine PocketPacks ($2.99 ea) - $1
2 x Colgate Total ($2.87 ea) - $3
2 x Gum toothbrush 2pk ($2.99 ea)
2 x Cinnamon Toast Crunch ($2.87 ea) - $0.75 (Did not get full price back in EB for the cereal)
LA Looks gel ($2.49) - $1
Finish Quantum ($2.99) - $1
FiberOne Brownies ($3.99)
Carmex ($1) - $0.30
Softlips ($2)
CVS Flossers ($1.99)
Kleenex Cool Touch ($1.5)
Pepto Bismal ($2.99)
CVS Batteries ($3.65)
--------------------------------------------
Started with $0 EB
OOP:  $24.05
Ended with $26.48 EB
Net Profit: $2.43 (tax cut into my profit!)

November 27:
These items were all part of the Spend $30, get $10 gift card deal. Plus, CVS was nice enough to give me $5 off $25 coupons, which I only knew about by logging into CVS.com and checking under the ExtraBucks section. There, you can "send to card" any coupons CVS decided to give you.

Tide: $5.94 - $2 = $3.94
Tide: $5.94 - $2 = $3.94
Pampers: $9.50
Pampers: $9.50 - $2 = $7.50
Dawn: $0.99 - $0.50 = $0.49
Dawn: $0.99 - $0.50 = $0.49
OralB toothbrush: $4.99 - $3 = $1.99
Gerber Good Start: $21.99
- $5/$25 CVS coupon on card
- $5/$25 CVS coupon on card
---------------------------------------------------
Started with $25.70 EB
Out of pocket: $4.29
Ended with $10 EB
Net cost: $19.99

Note: The net cost & net profit doesn't exactly add up to match the summary. That is because I spend some ExtraBucks on Nov 25 on an Anniversary card for my husband, and I earned an ExtraBuck from green bag tag scans.  For just the listed transactions, the net cost is actually $17.56.

  1. So you only had to pay $28.34 because you used coupons on what would have cost you $114.87 if you hadn't? That's awesome!

  2. Yup: sales + coupons + rebates (ExtraBucks) saved me ~88% off the regular price. Plus I still have $10 to spend next trip.
